On March 21st and March 22nd, I will be facing off against cancer as I play in the annual RCCS Hockey Classic, benefiting the families and patients of RCCS. I skate in honor and in memory of my father, Dr. Mark Weiner zt'l who passed just over a year ago on December 23rd, 2018.

Mark Weiner, MD, my father and best friend, had a thriving neurology practice when he self-diagnosed malignant brain cancer (glioblastoma) in 2012. He earned his MD degree at the University of Massachusetts Medical School,
completed his neurology residency at Downstate Medical Center, NY and EMG fellowship at Boston University School of Medicine. He was a remarkable husband, father, grandfather, physician, and human being. After his diagnosis, he advocated for, spoke on, and helped patients with medical cannabis for improving quality of life within chronic debilitating diseases. His long-distance bicycle rides, including Boston to New York, helped raise thousands of dollars for brain cancer research and was chronicled in the Boston Globe. His published essays on his experience appeared in the Boston Herald and Pulse medical humanities online journal and his presentation on “A Neurologist Faces Malignant Brain Cancer – My Story” is currently used in medical education. Dr. Mark Weiner was truly heroic and his courage, resilience, and grace were an inspiration and even life-transforming for many.

The mission of RCCS is to tackle cancer challenges, ease medical treatment, cover insurance premiums to lighten the financial burden, and make cancer care more accessible. Without this great organization, thousands of people would stare death in the face with little chance of recovery and survival. RCCS stands by each individual throughout every step of the process, holding their hands along the way to help them fight and win the war against cancer.

Please help this life saving organization by supporting me and my team as together we face off against cancer.
